ULT Cooling

ULT cooling (ultra low temperature cooling) is used for long-term storage of critical biological samples such as deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA), proteins, vaccines, cell extracts or reagents in molecular biology or life science laboratories. These samples must be stored at extremely low temperatures of -80 °C to -85 °C to avoid the risk of damage to the ingredients. With the introduction of DIN 13277 in May 2022, technical properties of ultra-low temperature freezers will be defined in a DIN standard for the first time. The standardization is intended to simplify the procurement of equipment. DIN 13277 applies to all ultra-low temperature freezers equipped with a refrigeration device and used for the storage of frozen products for the pharmaceutical and laboratory sectors in a setpoint temperature range of -90 °C to -20 °C.
